Danvers is close enough to Bloomington to be an easy commute and far enough out to still feel like farm country, with IL-9 running along the south edge and the co-op elevator marking the middle of town. It has the compact, walkable grid of a railroad village, a school in the Olympia district, and a housing stock heavy on early twentieth century frame houses that have been in the same families for a long time. That combination produces our two most common Danvers jobs: a long-overdue whole-house cleanout, or a farmstead finally clearing sheds that have not been emptied since the 1970s.

The first train arrived in November 1869 and scheduled rail service lasted until 1982, with an electric interurban running along Exchange Street from 1907 to 1953.
